Our services include, but are not limited to, the treatment and care of: Musculoskeletal and Joint Pain People who live with musculoskeletal and joint pain may experience different levels of pain and/or impairment. Symptoms can begin from an acute injury, chronic illness, repetitive strain or overused tissues, or after surgery or other source. Those living with such pain or impairment may have decreased flexibility/range of motion, decreased strength and an overall decrease in function. Our staff will identify the source of injury and develop a personalized plan emphasizing self-care, education and prevention. Neck, Back Care and Headaches Do you suffer from back and/or neck pain? Many people live with this pain because of a work-related injury, repetitive or overuse syndromes, postural faults, or even as a result of a motor vehicle accident or injury. Headaches often accompany neck pain or injury, but may occur independent of a neck injury. Whatever your circumstances, our therapists can provide treatment of these conditions to help eliminate or reduce the level of pain, and return normal range of motion. Vertigo Do you feel dizzy? Does the world “spin” around sometimes? That spinning sensation is called vertigo, and it may be caused by a problem in the inner ear. With a recommendation from your physician, our specially trained therapists will evaluate your problem, and provide treatment and exercise to either help stop that spinning sensation or help you learn how to adapt to it. Neurological Conditions (stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and more). For people who have experienced a head injury, returning to a “normal life” is the ultimate goal. These injuries can include brain injury from trauma or stroke, or can be from changes that occur through progressive diseases such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. Our professional team includes occupational and physical therapists, dietitians and physicians to help aid in recovery and rehabilitation.
Work-Related Injury and On-site Assessment If you’re recovering from an injury and getting ready to return to work, a work-site assessment may be just the thing you need. North Valley Health and Rehab's team of occupational and physical therapists with advanced training in ergonomics will help develop a "return-to-work" transition plan. They will study your work, home or hobby space, and make ergonomic and other adjustments to help remove the risk of reinjury.
Lymphedema If you experience heavy, aching arms, swollen hands or fingers, or have decreased flexibility ... you may have lymphedema. Lymphedema does not occur often but when it does, it can be a chronic problem. It is estimated that one of every four women who undergo breast cancer surgery will develop lymphedema. Complete decongestive physiotherapy, or manual lymph drainage, tops the American Cancer Society’s list of treatments for lymphedema. Our specially trained professionals will gently stroke fluid from the arm, bandage it and later fit each lymphedema patient with elastic gloves and sleeves to keep fluid from returning. Hand Injury/Surgery Our staff is trained in the treatment of the hand to prevent dysfunction, restore function or reverse the progression of illness to help each patient live an active life. Treatments and therapies may include both non-surgical or post-surgical management of conditions related to traumatic injury, cumulative trauma, arthritis, congenital defect or neurological disease. Our therapists will provide direct treatment and/or offer custom splinting, adaptive devices and education in injury prevention. Athletic/Sports-Related Injury (Sports Medicine) Our comprehensive sports medicine program is designed for people experiencing difficulties that interfere with their daily lives — from a retired golfer with knee pain, to a recreational softball player who has thrown out her arm, to an individual whose leg pain interferes with his ability to jog. We develop, instruct and help each patient advance his or her rehabilitation program according to individualized needs. North Valley Health and Rehab also works with local high schools to offer on-site consultations, event coverage, fitness appraisal, pre-season athletic screenings, body composition measurements, student sports assistant programs and sports medicine seminars/publications. Speech & Swallowing Disorders From pediatric to adult patients, we offer a wide range of speech-language pathology services to help people communicate to the best of their abilities. Our speech-language pathologists work with a variety of disorders, including: voice, aphasia, cognition, fluency and dysarthria (weakness or incoordination of the speech muscles). We also specialize in the area of dysphagia (swallowing disorders), and can assist patients with personal communication devices.
Fibromyalgia There are many terms associated with muscle pain syndromes, but people living with fibromyalgia want treatment that is individualized and effective. Our specialized team of providers works with each patient to develop a personalized treatment and movement plan, as well as a self-help agenda that works. Jaw Pain (TMJ dysfunction) Experiencing jaw pain while chewing? Does your jaw lock when yawning? Do you notice clicking and popping when chewing or talking? If you have any of these symptoms, you may have a dysfunction of the joint in your jaw. Physical therapists can evaluate and treat this condition through exercise, massage and other activities. Check with your dentist, who can refer you to our Physical Therapy Department for physical therapy.
